Cookies are small files a website saves on your device. Under UK law (PECR), sites can use cookies that are strictly necessary for a service you've asked for without asking first. Those are the only kind WhenLoop uses.
Cookies we use
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
| wl_session | Keeps you logged in to your account. | Up to 60 days, or until you log out |
| wl_guest | Remembers polls you made and answers you gave without an account, so you can change them later. | About 13 months |
| wl_login_email | Remembers your email address while you type in your login code. | 30 minutes |
| wl_oauth_state | A one-time security check while you log in with Google. | 10 minutes |
All of them are our own (“first-party”) cookies. They're set to be sent only over secure connections.
Preferences saved in your browser
We also save a few small preferences in your browser's own storage, on your device:
| Name | What it remembers |
|---|---|
| wl-app-theme | Your light or dark mode choice in the app. |
| wl_display_tz | The time zone you chose to view polls in. |
| wl_name | Your name, so you don't have to type it again on the next poll. |
No third-party or tracking cookies
We don't use Google Analytics, advertising networks, social media pixels or any other tracking. If we ever add something that needs your permission, we'll ask first and update this page.
Managing cookies
You can delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. If you do, you'll be logged out, and polls you made as a guest will no longer be linked to your browser. Blocking our cookies will stop logging in from working.
